A principal of a preparatory school in the Caribbean suspended a 9 year old boy for sexual harassment after he called his teacher cute.
The boy was actually talking to a classmate, when he mentioned to his friend that he thought the teacher was cute, not knowing a substitute teacher overheard his conversation and told the principal, who then suspended the boy for two days.
What’s ironic is the young man was suspended for something, that he doesn’t know the meaning of, and apparently, also the principal.
Sexual harassment is defined as unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favours and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature.
What the young man merely did was to compliment the teacher. The remark was not even made to her but to a friend, why then should he be reprimanded?
I couldn’t help but wonder how many of us would have received suspensions on a daily basis, if this kind of punishment was levied for this action at our institutions. As in most cases, whether we find a teacher cute or not, is the first comment we make to our friends the first time we see them.
Share your thoughts with us. Do you think the punishment was justified?
